Great migrations are something we strive for. With years of experience of being migration sherpas for many different platforms and clients, we knew that helping Yala was going to be challenging, but rewarding.

New owners, Tif and Rachel approached Artefactor to help migrate yaladesigns.com off its old e-commerce platform. There were many moving parts and technical debt; Yala has been a long-established e-commerce business and with it, archaic services.

Not only did we help reduce the massive cost attached to external services by simplifying the ERP and wholesale services, we migrated the store to Shopify. This gave the owners and their staff the empowerment to go beyond some of the old pitfalls and limitations of dated systems.

Custom Features

We built an easy-to-manage color variant selection experience.

Shopify Color Variant Segments
Segmenting colors lets Yala's customers know when a color or pattern is only available for a limited time, a basic color or on sale. This is easily managed via the Shopify admin of the store.

Gift Orders, Personal Gift Messaging and Gift Receipts

The old system had problems sending the right receipts to gift recipients - which was, well - embarassing. We updated gift orders with personal messages and custom gift receipts, and a very simple gift ordering experience. One of the important pieces of functionality implement for the new Shopify store, was the management of gift orders, gift wrapping and gift receipts. This was once a point of failure on the old plaform - and we turned it into a smooth, seamless customer experience.

Fabric Care & Size Charts

Much of Yala's fabrics include those that require special care. From varying bamboo textiles to silk - fabric care needed to be mapped to products appropriately.

Yala sells silk sheets to men's apparel items. Size charts had to be a bit smarter than out-of-the-box Shopify functionality could offer. We developed an easy and simple way of mapping and maintaining size chart and fabric information for products.

Let's Launch Three Weeks Before Black Friday

Yala launched three weeks before Black Friday. Most would faint at the idea, but we knew the timing couldn't be better. We were ready. 

It was a Good Call

When you get a phone call the day after go-live on a migration, it can go a couple of ways.

"What is going on? Our orders were double yesterday and again today. Is this for real? Is this going to last?" -Tif & Rachel
